Solvay girls teams

Basketball 1924-25
The team included Edith Noble (standing in the middle), who went on to have a long career as an art teacher at the school. (See her painting of the Solvay Process rockpile.)

Flanking her are teammates Anna Berlinski (left) and Esther Bryers.

Seated (left to right) are Alma Herrick, Emma Strauss and Bertha Friedli.

Bowling 1952-53
Pictured (left-to-right):
Gail Harrington. Joan Hewes, Rebecca Housman and Phyllis Monti.

Not pictured are Mary Jane DeStefano, Sandra Parker and Carolyn Molta, who also bowled that year.Molta went on to establish herself as one of Central New York's best bowlers.

Archery 1953
Left-to-right: Salvatrice "Sally" Mollura, Robin Nagy, Georgianna Ryan, Jeanette Martino, Geraldine Kosakowki and Coach Arlene Walter.

Sally Mollura's yearbook photo listed her participation is no less than five sports: archery, baseball, basketball, track and soccer.

Basketball 1953-54
Back row: Elizabeth Heckel, Roberta Nagy and Rose Mary Salvatore.

Front row: Annette Artini, Mary Grabosky and Margaret Vanetti.

As I looked through copies of Bearcat Echoes (the student newspaper), it seemed Arlene Walter, who must have coached all of the girls' teams during her many years at Solvay High, had flexible rosters, so yearbook photos may show only some of those who participated.
