The Solvay house that John Major built

Buster Major (above, hands on hips) poses with his sister Irene and an unidentified friend in front of the Solvay house at 316 Sixth Street in a photo taken about 1920. This is where John W. Major and Rose McLaughlin Major settled after they were married and left Skaneateles. John Major built the house and periodically made changes, such as expanding the second floor. The original structure is shown (above, left) in a 1900 photo. Out front are Rose Major holding infant son Billy. In front of her are daughters Maggie and Lola and her ill-fated firstborn, Emmett. More changes have been made since the Major family sold the house many years ago. At the left is a photo taken October 2006.
