Strengthened by a shift in the line, Christian Brothers Academy will face
Oswego Normal tomorrow in full battle array with all regulars present
and ready for anything.
Shifting Eisemann to the center berth, replacing Traynor and sending Joe
Sullivan in Eisemanns tackle position, Coach Culver believes he
has a line which will stand the battering of the heavy Oswego forwards
and backs.
CBAs forward pass attack has been perfected and is ready to spring
on the Oswego teachers. [NOTE:
Oswego Normal later became Oswego State Teachers College.] Several trick plays have been worked up and smoothed out with a view to
taking the heavier outfit off its feet by the surprise method.
Oswego has swung into mid-season form with a team which is out of CBAs
class as far as weight and age goes.
Russell, halfback on the Oswego team, is a former Vocational student,
having made a name for himself at the Blodgett institution in football.
The rest of the Oswego backfield is said to be fast and shifty.
Francis St. Denis, star end at CBA who has not played so far this season,
may get into the game tomorrow. Shields, regular end, was hit in the stomach
Wednesday and has been at home since. Dr. McMorrow, team physician, is
to examine him thoroughly today to determine the exact nature of the trouble.
St. Denis is ready to go in at a moments notice.
Separate
story found in scrapbook; this one had no headline:
For football fans who have Saturday morning free, an enjoyable hour could
be found at Star Park where Christian Brothers Academy goes into action
against Oswego Normal.
This is the first opportunity CBA followers have had to see the Brothers
in real battle. The opening contest with Rome showed nothing of the present
form of the N. State St. eleven which has been brought along by Coach
Frank Culver until it is an eleven which compares favorably with any in
CBAs history. After an early season defeat, the team has swung into
stride, having trimmed the powerful Fulton High last week. Shifts in the
lineup have uncovered unexpected talent which will be a surprise to many
local fans who have not seen the team in action.
Oswego Normal has a heavy team which is just getting into form. Oswego
is never at its best until just about this time of year. They caught their
stride last week against Rochester Mechanical Institute, which they roundly
trounced. Reports indicate they are confident of taking CBAs scalp.
They may, but not until some real football has been exhibited.
Shifting Capt. Sam Drais to quarterback has solved a troublesome problem
for Coach Culver. Drais will start against Oswego. He work should be a
revelation to home fans, for he has turned out to be a born quarterback
whose light has thus far been hidden under the proverbial bushes by some
freak of fortune.
McDermott, who swaps
places with Draise, going to Sams end, is showing much better in
that position than at quarterback. Shields, the other end, is also a made-over
backfield man.
Major, regular fullback,
is a classy performer. His work is a pleasure to watch. Bishop and Sheedy
and newly commissioned regulars who won their permanent spurs in the Fulton
tilt.
Hearn or Traynor will
draw the center assignment, made vacant by Jeff Dwyer, who, by the way,
will probably be seen no more this year on the field because of injuries.
Allen and Weiss, guards, and Eisemann and Kelly, tackles, are steady regulars
and will be ready to demonstrate line work as line work should be done. |
