This is a photo of Emmett Leo Major, the only one I have ever seen. The photo was enlarged from the one below and must have been taken in 1900, shortly after Billy Major was born. That's Billy being held by his mother, Rose McLaughlin Major in front of the family home on Sixth Street in West Solvay.

Up front are Maggie, 4, Viola (Lola), 2, and brother Emmett, then 5 or 6-years old.

Emmett died of diphtheria on April 17, 1906.

What always puzzled me was the name. I believe he may be the only Emmett in the family. His middle name likely honors Pope Leo XIII, so the name Emmett might also have had religious significance to Rose and John Major.
