Index of family trees
Charles J. Major

Charles and William Major settled in Skaneateles, NY. Here is everything we have on the descendants of Charles, except for a separate page that lists the family tree his son, Thomas.

Thomas E. Major
The family tree for this son of Charles J. Major is our most detailed, thanks to information provided by a grandson, Charles Thomas Major Jr., better known in Skaneateles as Charlie Major.
William J. Major
William's descendants include Stanley "Buster" Major, the Solvay, NY, mayor for who married Helen Smolinski, thus providing the name for this website.
The McLaughlins
One of William J. Major's sons, John W. Major, married Rose McLaughlin of another interesting Skaneateles family. Our McLaughlin family tree is too extensive to contain on one page. It begins with William McLaughlin Sr. (1793-1853) of County Donegal, Ireland. Several of his sons emigrated to the United States and their descendants are listed separately:
James "40 Acres" McLaughlin
James McLaughlin earned his nickname the obvious way – he settled near Skaneateles, NY, on 40 acres of land.
Cornelius McLaughlin
Cornelius eventually returned to Ireland, but left behind a son in the care of his brother, James.
John McLaughlin
John left Skaneateles and lived for awhile in Kentucky where his wife and first child died. He returned to Central New York, remarried and started a new family that included Rose McLaughlin, who married John W. Major.
William McLaughlin Jr.
William and his wife left Ireland for the United States after the birth of their first children, Mary Ann, who grew up and became a nun known as Sister Mary Antonia, author of From Convent to Conflict, a book about her life in Belgium during World War I.

Most of the family tree information was researched and provided by Charles Thomas Major Jr. (aka Charlie Major) of Skaneateles, NY. It obviously is incomplete and may contain some inaccuracies.
