Children of Lucinda and Thomas E. Major
Floyd Joseph "Blackie" Major (1899-1984)

Floyd Major was nicknamed Blackie as a baby because his black hair set him apart from his twin brother, Lloyd (see below), who had red hair, which, naturally earned him the nickname, Red.

Floyd married Anna Loretta McGinn (1898-1976). They had one son, Thomas. (More information below.)

Mrs. Anna McGinn Major of Jordan Road, Skaneateles Falls, died November 3 at her home after a long illness. Born in Hart Lot, Mrs. Major was a resident of the Town of Skaneateles all her life. She was a communicant of St. Bridget’s Church of Skaneateles Falls.

 

Floyd Major remarried. His second wife was Teresa Quinlan Costigan, who, I believe, was the widow of James Costigan (1897-1972) who lived most of his life in Solvay where he was a volunteer fireman prominent in the Onondaga County Firemen's Association.

Floyd J. Major, 84, of 304 Hall Ave., Solvay, and Jordan Road, Skaneateles Falls, died January 18. Known to his friends as Blackie, he was a native of Skaneateles Falls and a life resident of the area. He retired as superintendent of Waterbury Felt Company, Skaneateles.

Mr. Major was a member of St. Bridget’s Church, Skaneateles Falls, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 207, Auburn.

Surviving are his wife, the former Teresa Costigan; a son, Thomas Major, Elbridge; a brother, Sarto Major of Skaneateles; a sister, Nellie O’Shea, Skaneateles Falls; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Teresa J. Major, 87, of Bellevue Manor Apartments, who died Saturday, July 7, were Tuesday, July 10, in St. Cecilia’s Church, Solvay. Burial will be in St. Mary’s of the Lake Cemetery, Skaneateles.

Mrs. Major was born in Skaneateles and had lived in Auburn and Solvay for most of her life. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Church.

She was the widow of Floyd “Blackie” Major. Surviving are two sisters, Eileen Epoch and Catherine Cadden, both of Syracuse; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Anna McGinn and Floyd Major had one child, Thomas Joseph Major (1933- ).

Thomas Joseph Major (1933- ) married Beverly Ann Straub (1933- ). They have six children:

Lloyd 'Red' Major (1899-1963)

Lloyd "Red" Major married Clara Westlake (1908-1986). He was a life resident of the area, and a retired employee of the Waterbury Felt Co. He and his wife were communicants of St. Bridget's Church, Skaneateles Falls. Clara and Lloyd Major had no children.

Clara Westlake was born in Auburn, but lived most of her life in Skaneateles Falls. She was a retired registered nurse.

She was survived by three brothers, Bernard and George Westlake, both of Auburn and Charles Westlake of Scipio Center; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Pelton and Mrs. Barbara Breanick, both of Auburn; several nieces and nephews.

 
Ellen Veronica 'Nellie' Major (1904-1997)

"Nellie" Major married James A. "Chick" O'Shea (1906-1990). She was a lifetime resident of the Skaneateles area and retired as a Medicaid supervisor with the Onondaga County Department of Social Services.

O'Shea was a native of Marcellus, but lived in Skaneateles Falls for more than 60 years. He retired from P and S Textile Co. of Skaneateles Falls.

"Nellie" Major and James O'Shea had five children:

1. Ellen O'Shea (1933- ) married James F. Dwyer, a justice in the town of Marcellus and the attorney for the village of Marcellus. Their children:

2. James A. O'Shea (1934- ) married Ellen Lynch. Their children:

4. Daniel O'Shea (1945- )
5. Gerald O'Shea (1947- ) and his wife, Eleanor, have four children:

Kathleen Ellen O'Shea was an outstanding lacrosse player at West Genesee High School and in college at Loyola (Md.)
